Hello Artoonator, I thought about your half-way-thing. Maybe I was as astonished to be able to do this kind of drawing with coal that I stopped too early. At that moment I believed I could not do better. Most probably I can, if I try. ;-)

Hello LIH, this piece seems unfinished. Maybe you should makes the darks darker, and the lights lighter. Just to give more contrast, and define the face.

I feel like this could have more detail put into it. I do like how one side of the background is light and the other is dark, but I think it would look better if you blended the two in the middle.

Hello tchoupitoula, I thought about the blending and decided against it in this case. Concerning detail: Charcoal is not graphite. It's necessary to reduce on the essentials. That's what I like. Because you can't really correct the expression of the charcoal, I' ll draw this piece again and again until every line turns out to be just the way it is supposed to be. (But in between I'll do something else )
